Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a condition that affects people who ascend to high elevations too quickly. It occurs due to lower oxygen levels at higher altitudes, which can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness, and even life-threatening complications if not managed properly. Whether you're a traveler, mountaineer, or athlete training at high elevations, understanding altitude sickness  and knowing how to prevent it is crucial for staying safe.

Causes and symptoms 

The primary cause of Altitude sickness is lack of oxygen. As you ascend, the air pressure decreases,making it harder for the body to absorb oxygen effectively. 

Common symptoms include: Headache,Nausea, Dizziness, Fatigue and weakness,Short of breath etc.


Health Tips to Prevent and Manage Altitude Sickness

1. Gradual Acclimatization:Ascend slowly,giving your body time to adjust.

If traveling above 2,500 meters (8,200 feet), increase altitude by 300-500 meters (1,000-1,600 feet) per day.

Spend a day or two at a mid-altitude before going higher.

2. Stay Hydrated:Drink plenty of water(3-4 liters per day).

Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can worsen dehydration.

3.Proper Nutrition:Alway Eat carbohydrate-rich meals to provide energy And Also avoid heavy, greasy foods that may worsen nausea.

4.Listen to your body: if symptoms worsen, descend immediately.

Altitude sickness is preventable and manageable with the right precautions. If you plan to travel or train at high altitudes, always prioritize gradual acclimatization, hydration, and monitoring your body’s response.
